Structures discovered in the Mesilla Valley of New Mexico date back to 200 years BC. Pueblo Indians began irrigated farming here about 300 AD.
Precision agriculture is just getting started at the end of the 20th century. Most of the literature on this subject is less than ten years old. The combination of high spatial and temporal resolution aerial infrared photography with precision agriculture may be the way agriculture will do business in the 21st century.
Precision Farming
"The term "precision farming" means carefully tailoring soil and crop management to fit the different conditions found in each field. Precision farming is sometimes called "prescription farming," "site-specific farming" or "variable rate technology." It has caused a focus on the use of three technologies: remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and the global positioning system (GPS)."
